We will be hosting a queer book swap at every pop-up for Dave’s Lesbian Bar! The next one is September 26th in front of Katch. Come find our table to donate your gently-used LGBTQ+ books and/or to pick up some new-to-you books!
We’re throwing a Queer Book Fair for Pride Month! In addition to our usual selection of free books, we’re going to prioritize books by and about queer people. We’ll also have LGBTQ+ workshops for kids, teens, and their parents as well as tables from local groups such as Astoria Woodworkers Collective and Astoria Cat Rescue.
If you have queer books to donate or you’d like to be a part of the fair in some capacity, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Rolling Library will be at Astoria Heights Playground every other Thursday in May and June from 3-5 pm (weather permitting) to hand out free children’s books and collect donations for local mutual aid groups. We’re accepting donations of:
- new or used children’s, middle-grade, and young adult books for our little free libraries and upcoming book fairs
- nonperishables and personal care items (toothpaste, menstrual pads, deodorant, etc) for Astoria Food Pantry
- clothes hangers for Free Store Astoria
- single-serving snacks (chips, granola bars) for The People’s Bodega
We will have a table of free books—of all genres!—at Sunnyside & Woodside Mutual Aid’s Anniversary Party on the open streets. Come celebrate, learn more about us, SWMA, and the new Woodside Community Fridge! (We will not be accepting book donations at this event)
Our first official book fair of the season! Come out to Moore-Jackson Community Garden in Woodside, Queens and sift through hundreds of free books—of all genres, and for all ages. We’ll also have free clothes from Free Store Astoria, a table with Woodside Fridge, and more info about Moore-Jackson.
We’re accepting donations of unexpired and unopened food for Astoria Food Pantry as well as new and lightly used children’s books (including middle-grade and young adult).
